Nick Hancock

Picture
Owner and Instructor at Balance & Harmony Healing Arts Center, LLC
Nick has been practicing martial arts since 1987. He was raised with a Tai Chi and Kung Fu school in his backyard, and began taking classes at the age of five. As a young teen, he was teaching both children and adult classes at Body Balance Healing Arts Center, where he studied with his father, Master Pat Hancock.

Nick also had the great honor to study with his father's teacher, Grand Master Huang Chien-Liang. Growing up with a martial arts background in Maryland, Nick attended and participated in international and national Kung Fu and Tai Chi tournaments. Through the years of tournaments, he has placed first in international forms and sparing competitions, as well as being a judge for forms and fighting.

Nick believes that his dedication and disciplined practice has led him to becoming the owner and founder of Balance & Harmony Healing Arts Center. With a strong practice like Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Yoga, or Music, a person can gain an understanding of how to live and walk in balance and harmony. His ongoing experience studying Tai Chi and Kung Fu has led to many insights in the art of music.

In 1995, at the age of 13, Nick began studying guitar with Johnny Glaze. As Glaze shared his knowledge of guitar playing and music theory, Nick realized that martial arts practice and music practice were similar. The presence required in either practice has to be cultivated and has to be deep. Practicing deep presence can lead one into living a balanced life.

Nick now teaches Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Music and believes that balancing movement and stillness in our lives can greatly enhance the human experience.

Kim Ryder

Picture
Integral Hatha Yoga Teacher at Balance & Harmony Healing Arts Center, LLC
and Breakthrough Mindset Specialist

Kim started practicing yoga over twenty-five years ago when she was a young mother wanting to improve her health and well-being. After many years of attending regular yoga classes and her own self-practice, she wanted to do more to help others.
In 1995 Kim trained to become a teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga in the UK. She studied for three years
under the guidance of Swami Satchidananda Ma. During the first year of teacher training she started teaching
small groups of students. She then taught at several adult education centers around south-west of England
and began conducting her own regular classes in Berkshire.
In 2002 she moved back to Australia, where she grew up. Kim built a yoga studio in Adelaide hills, South
Australia. She began teaching regular integral hatha yoga classes, meditation groups, and workshops for
women’s health and wellness. Kim then began integrating a variety of in-depth healing disciplines, techniques
and modalities, to help students and clients heal and connect authentically.
In 2013 Kim was invited to participate as a volunteer for a two-week healing marathon at Habilitat in Hawaii. A
long-term drug and alcohol rehabilitation center with over 120 residents. One of her highlights was teaching
early morning yoga classes to residents and staff. They embraced Kim’s yoga and enjoyed all aspects of the
practice. During this time Kim met her future husband David Ryder who was also invited for his skills as a mind
and body specialist. Kim and Dave soon discovered they were a powerful healing team when they combined
their skills to help their clients.
In 2014 Kim moved to United States to be with David and begin a new direction
sharing their unique and powerful work. Kim and David ran a successful wellness clinic in Dallas, Texas. Much
of their local work was based on word of mouth and referrals from both pain clinics and psychologists for their
unique and effective style of healing. They also traveled regularly through the US, Canada, and Australia
teaching workshops.
In 2016 they moved their business Total Integrated Therapy to Canby, OR. Offering regular mind-body
workshops, online training, and one-on-one sessions for individuals to reach their personal and professional
goals. To find out more see: Break Through Mindsets or Total Integrated Therapy.
Kim is excited to share her integral hatha yoga wisdom and experience with the people of Canby, at Balance & Harmony.

Martial Arts Lineage

Body Balance Healing Arts

Picture
The Body Balance Healing Arts school is located on two acres in the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve outside Clarksburg, Maryland. Students tell us that they look forward to their stress levels easing as they arrive at the school, which is surrounded by gardens and woodland, and walk in the building with its beautiful painted murals.
Body Balance was founded by Master Pat Hancock in 1986 to offer training in a holistic approach to lifelong health. Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Yoga, meditation, massage and acupuncture are offered following Taoist principles of harmony with nature. Today, we use our bodies much differently than people did 50 to 100 years ago. Our sedentary lifestyles have weakened our connection to our inborn vitality. Healing, as well as martial, arts can reconnect us to lifelong physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.  At Body Balance the process of regaining what we have lost is fun, energizing and challenging.
